British Values

SMSC/ British Values

Everyday children join together for an assembly.

Each week we have a theme that runs through our assesmblies. We explore these themes in many ways including stories, music and discussions. We link these themes to Christianity and other religions using their stories. We also use these themes to consider the British Values. Every week we use assemblies to celebrate successes and achievements of all our pupils. We plan and support many fundraising events through the year for local and national charities.

Autumn themes are:

Working together, Democracy, Rules and Laws, Helping others, Courage, Harvest, Diwali, Perseverance, Remembrance, Anti Bullying, Giving thanks, Differences, Advent, Hannukah, Celebration

Spring term themes:

Going for goals, Getting on and falling out, Our community, Equality, Lent, Trying new things, Online Safety, Helping and encouraging others, Winning and losing, Doing your best

Summer term themes:

Fresh start, Water safety, Being kind, Understanding differences, Animals, Fairness, Making laws, Faster - higher - stronger, Moving on, Changes, Ambition

Democracy

Democracy is embedded at the school.  Pupils are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and with concern to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard.  Pupils also have the opportunity to air their opinions and ideas through our school council and student surveys.  Our school council are electing by their peers annually.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws whether they are those that govern the class, the school or the country, are consistently reinforced.  Each class discusses and sets its own rules that are clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member is able to learn in a safe and ordered environment.  Our pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.

Individual Liberty

Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.  Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely; examples of this can be clearly seen in our e-safety and P.S.H.E. lessons.  Whether it is through choice of challenge in maths; of how they record in topic work; which homework activity to complete or participation in our various extra- curricular activities; our pupils are given the freedom to make choices.

Mutual Respect

The pupils know and understand that it is expected and imperative that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have and to everything, however big or small. We show respect to peers, adults, visitors, belongings and our environment. We learn our protecting and respecting our environment through work in the forest school.

Tolerance of Those With Different Faiths And Beliefs

Lanlivery Academy enhances pupils understanding of different faiths and beliefs through religious education studies; P.S.H.E. work and  visits to places of worship and cities.  Beliefs, traditions and customs will be studied in depth, with visitors - Daya - being invited in to our school to enrich and extend understanding.  Through this our pupils gain an enhanced understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society.
