Wider opportunities

Class Brass

All pupils in year 2 - 6 are learning a brass instrument. Whole class music lessons are helping pupils to work as one group and to listen to each other. Children have to work in unison to make music. The children are really enjoying this new challenge and are looking forward to performing in front of an audience so they can be proud of what they have achieved.

Yoga

Looking after our wellbeing

Pupils in all classes have been including yoga in their day. Jays have really enjoyed this opportunity and have a session every day after lunch. It gives pupils the chance to re focus after lunch time, to practise their breathing and to get ready for learning. It definitely having a positive effect and our other classes are going to try and follow Jay's example.

Forest School

Building large scale dens

This term Eagle class were challenged to build large scale, permanent structures in our forest school space. This opportunity challenged pupils to use design, planning and constructions skills as well as developing learning skills such as collaboration, risk taking and perseverance. Pupils showed responsibility and enthusiasm and were proud of their achievements.

People who help us

Meeting the experts

This term Little Foresters have been learning about lots of people who help us including: fire fighters, police officers, nurses, vets, lifeguards etc. They have welcomed several visitors to the school to support their learning. The fire brigade visited and showed pupils the fire engine and when a vet visited she taught them how to look after animals. Learning from different people really helps children to understand and they had the chance to ask questions. This topic has helped children to be curious.

Bikeability

Staying safe on the roads

Pupils in year 5 had the opportunity to complete level 1 and level 2 bikeability. Learning to ride your bike safely is an invaluable life skill. Cycling is a environmentally friendly way to travel and is great for keeping fit, so learning how to do it safely is essential. They learnt about speed, braking and signalling as well as how to make sure their bike was safe to be on the road. These sessions help pupils to build confidence and be responsible.

Cross Country

More Running Success

This week it was Jay's turn to compete in the Mid Cornwall Cross Country. 9 pupils from year 1 - 3 walked over after their swimming lesson to run in their race. All the pupils showed determination and enthusiasm and performed brilliantly. We were crowned the champion in the year 2 girls race! Well done everyone! Sports help pupils to build resilience and work together as a team which has a good impact on their work in class.

Author Visit

Cate Merrin Visit

We were very lucky to have our second author visit of the year this week. Local author Cate Merrin came to assembly to share the book she has written: Captain Seasick and the Angry Seagull. Children had the opportunity to ask her some questions including: What does it feel like to see your book it a shop? These visits really help to inspire children in their writing. We hope we can welcome more visitors to assembly in the future.

St Piran's day

Jays Parade through Bodmin

Jays Class participated in the St Piran's parade in Bodmin. It's always a fantastic atmosphere, seeing all the pupils from around Bodmin parading through the centre of town. The parade finished with dancing before moving of to the Church, where each school sings a Cornish song. The children finish the day with a pasty!! Yum Yum. It is important for pupils to learn about and understand our local area, so community events like this one help our learning.

Cross Country

Running Success

After 5 hard races in the Mid Cornwall Sports Network from October to February, 4 pupils - out of our 10 strong cross country team - were selected to race against the wider county at Newquay Sports Centre. It was a blustery day but the sun was out. The boys from year 4 had to run 1120m across the three fields. This was the first time the boys had run against such a talented field, they held their own, persevered and did themselves proud. The most important part was that they enjoyed themselves and hopefully they will have another opportunity to compete in the race next year.
In year 5 we had a girl and a boy representing us. We won the year 5 girls race in spectacular style! We also came 6th in the boys meaning they now advance to the school games. Well done team!!

Pancake Day

Learning with the Church

Pupils in Little Foresters and Eagles Class went to St Brevita's Church (next door) to learn more about Shrove Tuesday. This year pupils had the opportunity to participate in singing, pancake making, cooking and eating. Pupils learnt why we eat pancakes on this day and what happens following pancake day. There was a lot of giggles and fun as pupils try to flip their pancakes. We are very grateful to the Lanlivery Church community for giving up their time to teach the pupils about this time of year.
