On Monday, Bodmin fire fighters visited to teach us about their job and their equipment. The children loved sitting in the engine, using and hose and listening to the stories. One highlight was watching them drive off with the lights and siren on. The children had a fantastic experience and were very grateful to the crew for giving up their time.
Jays class have been learning about the Great Fire of London. They made houses for homework and today they were used to recreate the great fire. Eagles class and Little Foresters joined them to watch what happened. Lots of children in Eagles Class were recalling what happened when they created there Fire of London when they were in key stage 1. It was fantastic!
This week, we were thrilled to celebrate the success of several pupils. Many of our pupils are members of sporting teams outside of school and this week saw the end of the season and presentation of awards. In the under 9s rugby team our pupils won the three awards - most improved player, player of the year and player’s player. Plus in football Rocky’s Team won the cup. Well done to all of them who have committed to their team, worked hard and been so successful. Keep it up!
It's Feast Week and the annual scarecrow competition. Little Foresters had been learning about the story - The Scarecrows' Wedding and used this to inspire their creation. They worked together and make and dress their models. The creations are now standing proudly in the front garden for all to see! Well done!
With the sun shining and after a busy week, Eagle class decided it was time to explore different areas to enjoy a book. Reading a book on a desk and chair is not very comfortable, so we gave pupils the chance to find some good spots in the forest to enjoy reading. Where will we read next?
On Monday, Year 1 and 2 competed in a Mid Cornwall athletics competition at Par Track. They had to throw, jump and run. The scores and times were added up to find the winner. We are proud to say one of our pupils won the girls competition, which is a fantastic achievement. They all showed confidence, determination and resilience and represented the school brilliantly. Well done! It's key stage 2's turn next!
Pre school and reception filled the writing area this morning and were bust on the whiteboards drawing pictures and writing sentences. The reception children taught the children in pre school how to use the sound mats to find the right sounds. Well done reception!
Year 5 started their sailing lessons this week. They will go sailing every week for 6 weeks. It is a great opportunity to learn a new sport, build confidence and find new talents. Already, children have overcome their fears. Several children were anxious about their first session, but returned to school full of confidence and excited for next week’s session.
This afternoon, year 3 joined Eagles class to participate in their science lesson. We were learning all about the heart and other parts of the circulatory system. It was a great opportunity for Eagle class to teach year 3 all about it. They made life size 3D model to show how it worked. Children were fantastic at using all the scientific vocabulary to explain the process.
Following an early start, we arrived in London ready to explore. After stretching our legs our first stop was the London Eye, this gave us the chance to have a bird's eye view of the whole city. It was a beautifully clear day, so we had a great views. We then went and had the 4D experience. The children enjoyed some street theatre including an escape artist, musician, mime and magician. After a long day we headed to Pizza Express for some food. To get to our accommodation, we used the tube which was very exciting!
First stop today was the Science Museum. We had a morning in the Wonderlab getting a hands on experience of many science ideas and concepts including space, electricity, forces and sound. In the afternoon we were at the Houses of Parliament using the underground. First we had a tour and saw a debate in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. After this we had a workshop which taught us how laws are made. With hungry tummies, we walked to Bubba Gumps, via Trafalgar Square, for some tasty food. Then it was time for some sleep.
It was the last day of activities. We started at The Making of Harry Potter and learnt how detailed and intrigued the process of making a movie is. We were able to see the sets, costumes and props up close. We then headed back to the Rainforest Café for some food. The day ended with a visit to the theatre to watch School of Rock, which was amazing.
