New Year Update!

The beginning of 2023 has whizzed by and it is nearly the end of February!!

In the last few weeks we have marked Children's mental health week and safer internet day. We spent time highlighting the importance of talking to people. Talking about how you feel, talking about worries and talking about what you do online. It also coincided with our swimming weeks, so we also thought about the importance of exercise on our wellbeing.

This week we headed to the Church to find out about Shrove Tuesday. We enjoy our opportunities to visit the church and learn from them. We learnt about feasts and fasting and why people give up food for lent. We then had to the chance to make pancakes and even had a pancake tossing competition!

Update

Looking like Christmas at Lanlivery!!

It's Christmas! It has been a cold and frosty week, but we have been very busy! We have been crafting, performing and, most importantly, having snowball fights!!

On Monday, we had to cancel our trip to the Theatre, but hopefully we will get there today. On Wednesday evening we performed our Nativity in the Church, it is the first time since 2019 that we have had a full audience for Christmas and it was magical!

We are finishing the week with a party and a special visitor.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!

Carnglaze Caverns Singing!

On Thursday, a group of children from year 2 - 5 went to Carnglaze Caverns for an Arts Competition. It was a whole trust event where all schools took part. The children sang How Far I'll Go - from Moana and Million Dreams - from The Greatest Showman. They performed amazingly in front of a full audience. We came first in the morning session. Then they were announced as the overall winners for the day for their singing ability, costumes, movement and cohesion in working together. They can't wait for the trophy to arrive!!

Well done all!

November

Update

November is always a busy month in school. We started the month with the Farm and Country Roadshow. We had a workshop all about where our food comes from and took part in different activities.

Last week we marked Remembrance Day by creating stain class windows, learning about why itis so important and holding a 2-minute silence.

We have also had a science day to explore the variety of concepts and ideas we could learn about in science lessons. We mixed up across the school so children of different ages could work together. We looked at plants, oral hygiene, melting, forces, making mixtures and lots more.

We have also been taking the opportunity to read together across the school. The younger children love to hear stories told by the older children and they are eager to join the older children's library club.

Year 3 headed to Fowey River Academy for a multi-sports festival and had a great time exploring different activities.

We started our month of special assemblies with Little Foresters, where we were joined by parents to celebrate the work they have been doing in class. We are looking froward to Jay's and Eagles's assemblies which are coming up soon.

This week we have focused on Anti-bullying week. We took part in the live BBC lesson to learn all about bullying. We wore odd socks to recognise and celebrate difference and had lots of discussions about 'Reach out' this year's theme. We are finishing the week by celebrating Children in Need with pajamas day and a cake sale.

Update

Autumn term 1

6 weeks into the new school year and there has been lots going on.

Jays have been to the recycling centre to find out more about waste and the impact on the environment.

Little Foresters have been to Dairyland as part of their Farms work to find out about animals.

Year 2,3 and 6 had workshops with Barnardos about Healthy Relationships. Sam joined us for two days to work with children and discuss lots of different aspects of relationships and keeping ourselves safe.

School council have started their work in school and organised a fundraiser for Cancer Research where we wore home clothes and held a bake sale. We are now counting the votes to find out who is chair.

Year 6 have had a taster day at Fowey School, where they had the opportunity to try different lessons including, French, music and science. Some of year 5 and 6 will be going back on Monday for a Heptathlon competition.

This week we welcomed visitors from Uganda to have a look around our school and to find out more about schools in England. They were particularly interested in our PSHE curriculum and how we teach children about what happens as they grow up. Hopefully we can make some links with schools in Uganda to find out more about their schools.

New Year

September 2022

Welcome back!!

It has been lovely to see everyone back in school. Everyone has settled in to their new classes and got back it to the daily routine of school.

Our new wellbeing cabin is up in the playground, just a few finishing touches to do to get it up and running. The children are desperate to get inside and plan how it will look. This has been purchased through PTA fundraising and is going to be a fantastic addition to the site.

There are lots of lovely things planned this term. Little Foresters and Jays have already been out on their first trips. Keep an eye on weekly updates to see what else is happening in school

What A Night!!

An amazing performance from all the children in Joseph tonight. We are fortunate to have a beautiful setting in the forest. Thank you to everyone who came, it is lovely to have a big audience for children to shine in front off.

Forest Feast Day

As part of the Schools for All Seasons project that Eagles are part of, we had a forest feast day. Leanne and Billy from Real Ideas visited us and created a feast in our fabulous forest.

We made lemon and nettle cake, vegetable chilli, chinese, flat breads, salad and elderflower cordial. We walked around our forest area foraging for ingredients and learning about the plants we have on our door step.

Once the cooking was complete, we invited Jays and Little Foresters to join us for the feast. Eagle class served the food and told them all about what it was made of and how it was made.

It was a fabulous day!! Thank you Leanne and Billy!

Update

Wellbeing day

On Wednesday, the whole school took part in wellbeing day. The children were mixed in to 4 groups to complete different activities in the morning. They did forest school, healthy snack making, printing and mindfulness. In the afternoon the children returned to the normal classes but continued with activities for wellbeing including using the outdoors, making happy boxes, playing and relaxation.

In assembly we asked the children what they thought of the day and we were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the children. They enjoyed working with children in different classes, they said they felt relaxed and happy and wanted to do it again. We asked how we could make it better next time and they gave us some great ideas!

Hopefully everyone has come home relaxed and happy!!

Sports day

This week, we had our first Sports day for three years where parents and friends could join us. It was a fantastic day and the children showed determination and enthusiasm. We participated in a range of different sporting activities to collect points. All three teams - Polkerris, Crinnis and Carylon - scored over 800 points. Carylon were victorious with a grand total of 888. The scores from the morning competitions were part of the Bridge School games and have been submitted for the competition.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported and also a huge thank you to our PTA for supplying refreshments! We are now looking forward to Little Forester's sports day next week.
