School Closure

Saying Goodbye and Accessing Work

Friday was a very surreal day and one that I'm sure we will all remember. We are as disappointed as you all will be with the news, however, we understand why we have to close and are committed to playing our part in preventing the spread of the disease.

Our role as a school now is to support you as much as possible with the educational and emotional care of your children whilst they are unable to attend school. To help you with this, we will be using the class pages to share ideas, resources and information. This is the page where we write class blogs for you.  You have already received packs for each class which should support you through the first week. We have also sent parents links to good website, which we will continue to update.

Do not worry about work and we understand that for many parents who have more than one child and where you have to work from home for example, completing learning with your child will be difficult every day.

Please remember that there are many ways to learn. Reading books, watching films, playing board games, looking for worms, building dens and completing jigsaws are all valuable learning experiences.

I would like to thank the staff in school for their quick gathering of work as due to the nature of the school. The staff will continue to add new work as needed and we would love to hear about any of the work that you have been completing when the school opens again.

Feel free to email us if you have any questions, we will always reply as soon as we can. You can either email me at head@lanliveryprimary.co.uk, especially if you have a general question or comment, or if your message is about learning and content on the Class page for your child, please email the class teacher using their initial and surname followed by @lanliveryprimary

Finally, thank you so much for your patience, support and response to our increasingly challenging situation over this last week. We have been overwhelmed by the positive comments. This is a difficult and unknown time for us all, so from our amazing Lanlivery Primary community, I send our love and best wishes and we hope that you can all stay safe, fit and well in the coming weeks and months.  Please stay safe.

xXx

Reading

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book day on Friday. Everyone came dressed as their favourite book characters. We had 4 Mary Poppins, several Harry Potters, a couple of Cat in the Hats, an ugly sister and may more! Children had a chance to explore books and talk about reading. They all have a £1 book token to spend on a new book. Reading is the most important skill we teach at school as it allows children to access the rest of the curriculum. It is vital that children enjoy and love to read, so going to the book shop to find a book to spend their voucher on is a fantastic opportunity to get pupils excited about books!

St Piran's Day

Soggy and Mousehole Cat Art Day

On Thursday it was St Piran's Day; we decided to hold an art day to celebrated some Cornish Stories. We used the story Mixed to start the day - this story talks about with only three colours but in the end their are thousands of colours as the three colour towns have mixed. From this story we learnt all about colours - primary, secondary, tertiary, warm, cool, complementary as well as tones and shades. Each class then created art linked to their Cornish story. We also enjoyed pasties for lunch!

Year 3 and 4

Dance Festival

On Wednesday, the year 3 and 4 dance group - Lanlivery Legends, visited Penrice School to take part in a dance festival. Last half term they had a series of dance classes with Harvey to prepared them for their performance. On the day they took part in a variety of dance workshops before their big performance. They were fantastic and performed with confidence. Well done everyone.

Shrove Tuesday

Pancakes in the Church

On Tuesday we were invited to St Brevita's Church to learn about Shrove Tuesday. Children had the opportunity to make pancakes, find out what shrove Tuesday is and to sing some songs. It was a fantastic community event. The church organised the morning for us and it was really enjoyed by all the children. Thank you

Parent and Child Sessions

Stay and Play is back!

Little Foresters Stay and Play is back for the spring and summer. We have select four dates (one a month) where we would like to invite children and parents local to the area to come to a forest school session. this sessions will be themed around a book each month and will be run by our Early Year's teacher - Mrs Harper.

We ask that people wishing to attend ring or email to book in so we know how many to expect. We are really looking forward to seeing new faces and welcoming you to our school.

Any questions, please get in touch!

Safer Internet Day 2020

Stay Safe Online

Last week it was Safer Internet Day. Mr Tucker held an assembly where they discussed the key areas for staying safe online. Children demonstrated a great understanding of what to do to keep them safe, but it is extremely important that we talk about it regularly, so children have an opportunity to explain what they are worried about as well. We reminded children that if they see something they don't like online - tell someone!

Books, Books, Books!

Library Van Visit

We had our second visit from the library van this afternoon. School council selected 60 new books to add to our library including books by authors such as: Miranda Hart, Tom Fletcher, Julia Donaldson, Jaqueline Wilson, Jeff Kinney and many more. The children were excited to start reading some fresh, new exciting books.

Celebrate

New Awards

From this week we will be celebrating more successes in our classrooms. We have always awarded a star of the week but from now on we will also be celebrating a particular star in reading, writing, spelling or maths. As well as highlighting pupils who are demonstrating excellent learning skills including - taking on challenges, learning from mistakes, never giving up and taking risks. Finally we will also be shining a spotlight on one particular pupil who has been a fantastic role model in the school and awarding a Headteacher's award pen. Friday assemblies will have to be a little bit longer, but we are looking forward to celebrating the hard work from our pupils.

Cross Country Update

Another Muddy Race!

Race 4 of the season took place this week. Yet again it was extremely wet and muddy and the children are having to get used to running in these conditions. The team is remaining strong with most of the runners from race 1 still taking part. One more race to go before half term, keep up the good work!
