Last term Eagle Class wrote a song inspired by an environmental issue. The class focused their writing on plastic. This was the chorus
Plastic is useful, handy and strong.
but when it comes to single use it's very, very wrong.
Our planet is precious, super, super great.
But now we need to make a change, we cannot hesitate.
Four of the main lyrics writers went to St Martin's Church to share the song with other songs in the trust. they were extremely confident and brave to stand up in front of so many people.
All classes have been getting into the Christmas spirit. The younger children have been writing letters to Santa and learning about the Christmas story. Everyone enjoyed a festive lunch on Wednesday and play rehearsals are in full swing! Don't forget our performances are on next Wednesday. Hope to see you there!
Today, a volunteer from Cornwall Air Ambulance visited us to tell us more about the charity. Before half term we raised money towards their new helicopter and they wanted to come in to tell us more about how the money would be used. Children found out lots about the equipment they carry, the special clothes they wear and about the helicopter themselves. The children were extremely interested and asked some great questions. It is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to meet people and find out about what they do
We dedicated some time to being kind last week. We talked about how kind words make you feel good and someone else feel good. We think we have a school full of kindness, but is important to dedicate some time to this every now and again!
Our new reading scheme has arrived. We are very grateful to the PTA for all the hard work as all the money raised last years has enabled us to purchased this fantastic new resource. The new scheme is closely matched to our phonics programme allowing pupils to use their decoding skills to read the whole book. We hope you enjoy sharing these books at home.
On the last day of term, our new school council organised their first fundraiser. The children organised a wear red day, splat the school council and a cake sale to raise funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. We aimed to raise over £100 so our school name could go on the new helicopter and we raised £203.20, which is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who supported the events.
It was the first race of the new season this week. As traditional we had a fantastic group of enthusiastic runners, some who were participating in their first race. All were eager and confident and did a fantastic job. We even managed to win two medals. Well done. The next race is in November and I know we have at least two more runners to join the team. Keep up the good work.
Our new reception group were in the paper this week. It's lovely to have such a big group of pupils starting primary school with us. Their first half term has gone so fast. They have learnt lots of new sounds, found out about numbers, explored the forest and played with each other brilliantly. Keep up the good work!
To finish the week, children across key stage 1 and two had the opportunity to share a book. Pupil’s grouped together and found a spot to enjoy a story. Also this week we had our first visit from the library van. The school council got to pick 60 books to add to our library. We are excited to be involved with the library service this year and are looking forward to adding some fantastic new texts to our library. Watch this space!
Eight children in key stage 2 have volunteered to take a very important role; they are becoming buddies. Today we role played different scenarios in the playground that they can help and manage. Children have different duty days, their photos will be up in classrooms so others know who can help them that day. They are also looking forward to doing some first aid training after half term to become “budaiders,”
